Blokus Board Game

A Tactical & Strategy Game For The Whole Famliy!

The Blokus Board Game has won an array of awards including the Dr. Toy and Parent's Choice Award.

Blokus Toy or Blokus Board Game?

Depending on who you ask you'll get different answers. For YOUNG YOUNG children it's a fun puzzle like game with cool shapes to keep them busy. For the "real" game players it's a challenging board game one that hasn't been seen in a while.

What's The Game About

The basic idea of game play is for a player to rid themselves of all their playing pieces/tiles. *Note ? The playing tiles form various shapes not just squares as scrabble tiles look. You find "t" shapes, "L" shapes and more! If there are no more spaces on the board to fit a game piece then the game is over for that player. Once all players have no spaces left to lay a shaped tile down the game is over. When this happens the final points are tallied and whoever has the most points wins. The Manufacturer Recommend Age is 5-12 for this game.

*More Specifically – Each player has a set of 21 game pieces. There is 1 – one square piece, 1 piece with 2 squares, 2 pieces with 3 squares, 5 pieces with 4 squares and 12 pieces with 5 squares. Again they're in various shapes, which makes the game more challenging! On the scoring side of things you can receive negative and positive points. On the negative side if you have pieces left over you'll lose one point for each one square. On the positive side a player earns 15 points if all their pieces are on the board. That player will also receive an additional 5 points if their last piece placed on the blokus game board was the one square piece.

Looking For A Little Strategy?

Yes there are some tips, hits and strategies to playing this game as with any game. Here is an overview of some strategy you may want to use in order to be the big winner!

  • When you start the game try to move towards the middle of the blokus game board. You do this in order to use up the maximum amount of space. The theory is that if you stay on your side/corner then you won't be able to play many pieces.

  • A major strategy you should try to implement is to lay your biggest pieces on the board during the beginning of play as there may not be enough space for them in the end causing you to receive negative points with left over squares.

  • Think both offensively and defensively! Yes you want to lay down your pieces but always think about blocking others from laying their pieces down.

  • Keep an eye on the empty squares where only you can place your pieces (squares where you've blocked others from coming in). Because first you want to exhaust the empty spaces available to all the players. If you run out of space in other areas of the blokus game board you'll always have those open spaces you saved for later.

    Other Versions

    Blokus Trigon

Like the "Original" Blokus Board Game except with a twist. Well more like a triangle. In this version the Blokus Trigon pieces must fit tip to tip instead of corner to corner. Also this Blokus Board Game (Trigon) is played on a hexagonal game board.

This game too is fun for kids of all ages! And don't underestimate the kids because they pick up the game very quickly and can beat even the most avid Blokus playing adult.

The best part about the Blokus Board Game Series is that they're not only fun and challenging but they're also easy to learn. That's why kids and adults can play the game together. It's one of the few games where players of all ages are challenged together at the same time.

Lastly some people have referred to this game as the Blokus Toy. The reason behind that I believe is the fact that young children love the shapes of the tiles. They can place them on the board as if making a puzzle! Of course it's not intended for young children but the shapes and puzzle making is definitely intriguing for them.
