    Easy Family Card Games

  • SET Game

    Recommended for ages – 6-99.

This is one of the more popular easy family card games on the market today. It's both educational and fun, fun, fun! It's not like a traditional card game though because in this game you're using your brain to find patterns on the cards. Basically the SET Game is a pattern recognition game. On each card you'll find one of three symbols, either a "squiggle, diamond or oval" shape. You'll also notice that there is either 1, 2 or 3 of these symbols on a card and that they're either "purple, red or green" in color. Lastly the degree of shading of each color on the card varies also. It sounds harder than it really is; I mean 6-year olds pick this game up fairly quickly. With that said it still make take a little time to get the hang of playing this game but once you do get the hang of it you and your family will be hooked. A dealer will place 12 cards up and players try to make logical sets of 3 images each. Those "sets" can be with shapes that are all the same or all totally different. It's really not a scream out loud game as everyone playing is concentrating on making a set. But it's a fun family game that really trains your brain to see things in a different way. Also it's an easy game to take on vacation, not so big or bulky. The SET Game is a must have and if you want to try it out before buying you can find online free versions to play.

  • Quiddler Card Game

    Recommended for ages 8-99.

Another one of the great easy family card games and it's a MENSA Award Winning Word Game too! Something of a mix between Uno and Scrabble. Basically you're trying to create words with your cards that have letters on them and you're also trying to discard. The game is great for both young and old. You get points and win rounds by spelling words out with the cards you're holding in your hand. The person who spells the most words and the person who spells the longest word in a round receive bonus points. Each word created is worth points, some more than others depending on the letters and length of the word created. Sounds like Scrabble doesn't it. Young kids can even win this game because they can create a lot of small words, which would give them bonus points if they create the most words in a round. There are 8 rounds total so it's not a game that goes on forever, which is perfect for family night. Also it's a game for 1-8 players so everyone can play. Don't forget to have a dictionary on hand as someone will always question the validity of a word or two. The Quiddler Card Game is another family favorite game!

  • Five Crowns Game

    Recommended for ages 8-99.

Another award winning card game winning the Parent's Choice Award in 1996. This game is for 2 to 7 players so it's great for small get-togethers or on family night. The game is played with two decks of custom cards made for this game and it's played similar to gin rummy. There are 5 suits instead of the usual 4 and there are no aces or twos but there are six jokers that are used in the game. To begin this game you're dealt 3 cards and depending on the number of cards dealt that card is wild, hence the 3 is wild when dealing 3 cards. Each round you deal one more card on up to 13 cards being dealt at once to each player. As with other games you need to get three cards of the same kind to lay your cards down, three tens, three jacks and so on. Or you can have three cards of the same suit in a row, 3,4,5 of hearts and so on. After all the rounds are done the person with the least points wins. Points are scored by how may cards are left in your hand after the last round is done. If you like Gin Rummy you'll love Five Crowns even more and so will your kids, friends and family members. It's one of the easy family card games that's defiantly worth giving a try.

  • Rat-a-Tat Cat

    Recommended for ages 6-12.

Recommended for ages six to twelve but you'll find that kids younger than six and most parents and grandparents even love this game. It's won various awards including the Oppenheim Toy Portfolio Platinum Best Toy Award. The objective is to be the one holding the cards with the lowest points at the end of the game and you win. It's a great learning game for children because they must count up their point totals so there is math involved and they must also use memory skills. The pictures are also well drawn which adds to the appeal for young kids. A simple yet very fun card game, Rat-a Tat Cat is fun card game especially for families with young children.

  • Blink Game

Recommended for ages 7 and Up.

The Blink Card Game is a very simple game and can be played by kids younger than 7, probably more around 4-years of age and up. Similar to UNO in that the first player to rid themselves of their cards and says "BLINK" wins the game. You discard one of your cards when you match a shape, count or color to the middle card. The play is very fast and kids love the action. It's a quick thinking game and great for all ages!
